Are “Veganists” sane?
This particular blog is not a criticism of vegans or vegetarians who I believe should be free like everyone else to eat whatever they want, however, my concern is aimed at the intolerant preachy minority who will stop at nothing to force their views on others. I have given these militant maddies their own name; “Veganists” to separate them from the sensible, normal and peace-loving vegans and vegetarians out there.
What prompted this particular blog is when the other day I opened a rather odd and cryptic letter from a group calling themselves the “Concerned Citizens Group” asking me in a roundabout way to have the “courage of my convictions” and stop supplying butchers with products. Are these people really in touch with reality? Am I going to give up my career which I love and that I have built up over 40 years for some anonymous wacko who can’t even put their name to the letter!
In the same correspondence they lay the blame for the current COVID-19 crisis solely on the meat trade, and stating that most farmers are now turning their back on cattle farming and instead converting to growing vegetables. Twisted lies if there ever was any. The outbreak originated in China by allegedly transfer of the virus from bats to humans, however, you would work long and hard to find any winged rodents in any butchers shop or supermarket anywhere in the western world!
The insanity these fascist type veganists suffer from is scary; but where does it come from? Do the many chemicals used in farming vegetables damage their brain cells?
Now I have spoken many times about the need for my fellow butchers to sell more than just meat and think of themselves as not only purveyors of fresh meat, but more of a fresh food shop, rather than the sawdust floored, meat hanging in the window establishments of yesteryear, and sell vegetarian and gluten-free products to accommodate everyone’s tastes.
The bad news for the veganists is that during the recent coronavirus outbreak, it highlighted the UK’s desire for meat products, as 1000’s of butchers up and down the country will profess, and I saw no evidence of consumers queuing up outside fruit & veg shops to buy celery or stock-piling carrots, and indeed our butchers are one of the few beneficiaries of the pandemic. As one customer put it to me, “It has been like Christmas without the fun or the warning!”
However I now fear the veganists will realise their cause is lost, but being crazy, then will ramp up their activity anyway, and we will have to endure much more of their crazy antics; but the evidence is now crystal clear; meat-eating is here to stay.
