Thank Your Customers
When is the last time you thanked your customers for the orders they place with you? It amazes me how many companies take for granted the money that customers spend that provides for jobs and lifestyles, but don’t bother to acknowledge where the monies come from. Do you want a perfect example of the lack of thought of where their wages come from? Have you ever received a thank you from the person behind the counter of a fish & chip shop, or even kind smile for that matter?
As an apprentice butcher in the 80’s, I was frustrated with one particular customer who would come into the shop close to shutting time asking to buy cooked meats just after I cleaned the slicer. One day, thinking he was doing it deliberately, I decided to be rude to him and he left no doubt feeling rather upset. However, no sooner had he left the shop, the owner had me by the throat and held me up against a wall (No HR in those days!) reminding me very forcibly and in no certain terms that every customer that came into the shop was a wage packet and if they stopped coming, then so would my wages. My boss knew how important customers were and he made sure I understood it too. I learned a valuable lesson that day which has served me ever since.
I do not recommend grabbing anyone by the throat, but it is up to business owners to create a culture of being appreciative of customers and what they give in the way of business, as they always have options and don’t have to shop just with you.
Here at TPS, we pride ourselves on relationship building with our customers, and we value every order we get, large or small.
